Review by Ross Anthony |
Yikes. I had heard good things about this film, so when it came to HBO -- we watched it. Well, we started to watch it. We made it a full thirty minutes before I decided that I just couldn't take the hokiness any longer. The film hopes to impress us with grit and serious danger and, in part, the first scene did get our attention. But from there on in, the dialogue is straight TV cop show from yesteryear. The acting very B, and with the number of incredible coincidences mounting, I just said, "no" when asked to believe the ultimate plot. We agreed that film wasn’t meeting our expectations so we turn it off and watched Kicking and Screaming
instead -- boy were we happy. In any case, this is an illegitimate review because I never finished the movie -- there is always the possibility that it picked itself up from the bootstraps. (I did talk to a friend who quite enjoyed it actually.) On the positive side, John Laguziama did give a very good performance as lowlife criminal and Maria Paolo looked great in whatever the heck she was wearing in a police station.
